Our chapter has been proud to send a number of remarkable U of S students overseas to volunteer with Engineers Without Borders, as part of the EWB Junior Fellowship in International Development program. These volunteers have worked with local development organizations in several African countries - experiencing international development efforts first-hand, contributing to these projects, learning and growing, and bringing back new perspectives and experiences to the chapter and community here in Canada.
Current Junior Fellows
Our current (2009) Junior Fellows are Colleen Steele and Tamara Sonntag, who are working this summer in Northern and Southern Malawi, respectively. Be sure to check out their blogs to keep up to date on their experience!
Past Junior Fellows
You can also read the stories of our JFs from the past few summers. Alison Silversides travelled to Malawi with EWB in summer 2008, while William Jansen travelled to Ghana. Alison was with Work for Rural Health, which worked on water and sanitation initiatives in rural Malawi. William worked with the Ghanaian Ministry of Food and Agriculture, helping rural farmers in the Yendi district of northwestern Ghana. Preston Sorensen worked in Malawi in 2007 with coffee farmers from the Mzuzu Smallholder Coffee Farmers Trust.
